[15:21]<@jacky> !lastspoke BC_Programming
[15:21]<@jacky> BC_Programming: boo!
[15:21]<@BC_Programming> k
[15:21]<@jacky> Hello :)
[15:21]<@jacky> got a min?
[15:22]<@BC_Programming> yeah
[15:22]<@jacky> the other day, I was downloading a linux live cd
[15:22]<@jacky> big
[15:22]<@jacky> before I changed computer settings, I went looking and found:
[15:22]<@jacky> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/computer-goes-to-sleep-while-downloading/24083cb8-122c-4516-8290-dbcc7be87c6c
[15:22]<@jacky> read the answre by Savan Microsoft Support.
[15:23]<@jacky> and let me know if you think that it is correct
[15:23]<@jacky> I do not.
[15:23]<@jacky> no big deal.. no rush
[15:23]<@jacky> just sometime
[15:23]<@jacky> Thanks
[15:25]<EliasC> oh hey jacky wb
[15:25]<EliasC> u been gone long time
[15:25]<EliasC> was worried a lil
[15:25]<EliasC> how r ya
[15:25]<@jacky> EliasC: Hello
[15:25]<EliasC> hi :)
[15:25]<@jacky> was I? I thought I was by here just yesterday... time flies though
[15:25]<@jacky> I'm ok
[15:25]<@BC_Programming> lol... wow... I don't even that guy read the question "The computer goes to sleep while downloading" doesn't seem like it would be solved by preventing a device from waking up the computer
[15:25]<@jacky> tnx
[15:25]<@jacky> you?
[15:26]<@jacky> BC_Programming: so the answer is not correct?
[15:26]<EliasC> oh i'm real good trhx
[15:26]<EliasC> thx
[15:26]<@jacky> I was pretty sure that I had a power management thing-y set up like that, and that it would stop the d/l and put the machine to sleep if I left it... I checked.. and it does
[15:27]<@jacky> was the thinking that the incoming data.. .the d/l.. would keep it awake? ... maybe?
[15:28]<@BC_Programming> my understanding is that the setting determines whether you can use "Wake on LAN", which is sort of a separate protocol where you can send a specific packet to instruct the network card to wake up the PC
[15:29]<@jacky> vaguely, that is about what I thought to
[15:29]<EliasC> hm
[15:29]<@jacky> well... if you know somebody that can find out if this Savan fellow is still around... straighten him out
[15:29]<@jacky> he's not good for MS, is he? heheheehe
[15:29]<EliasC> set the setting to never go to sleep
[15:29]<@jacky> EliasC: pretty much, that is what I did
[15:29]<EliasC> mm k
[15:30]<@BC_Programming> Most of the support engineers are outsourced
[15:30]<EliasC> yup
[15:30]<@jacky> I was wanting some way to let it sleep... but AFTER the d/l finished
[15:30]<EliasC> oh.
[15:30]<EliasC> hm
[15:30]<@jacky> BC_Programming: by the way... do you know of a way to do that?
[15:30]<@jacky> EliasC: you too
[15:30]<@jacky> heh
[15:30]<EliasC> i know u can choose to shut off after downloads
[15:30]<EliasC> yeah
[15:30]<@jacky> oh?
[15:30]<@jacky> where is that?
[15:30]<EliasC> uh
[15:30]<EliasC> well its in my downloade manager
[15:30]<@jacky> I dont' want to do that.. but I'll see what else might there with it
[15:30]<EliasC> they do it somehow
[15:30]<@jacky> ah
[15:30]<@jacky> freedownload manager?
[15:31]<EliasC> yeah and its not open source
[15:31]<EliasC> no
[15:31]<EliasC> its internet download manager
[15:31]<@jacky> I used to use that one... I'd forgotten about it
[15:31]<EliasC> idm
[15:31]<@jacky> what is idm?
[15:31]<@jacky> oh.
[15:31]<EliasC> its internet download manager
[15:31]<@jacky> not free?
[15:31]<EliasC> its real good one
[15:31]<EliasC> no only free for 30 days
[15:31]<@jacky> screw that
[15:31]<@jacky> heheeh
[15:31]<EliasC> yuh.
[15:31]<EliasC> i was cracking it for the longest time
[15:31]<EliasC> but such a pain in ass to keep updated
[15:32]<EliasC> so i just broke down and bought it
[15:32]<@jacky> BC_Programming: ?
[15:32]<EliasC> 23 bux one time in a life
[15:32]<EliasC> not bad
[15:32]<@jacky> EliasC> but such a pain in ass to keep updated << why? what happened?
[15:32]<@BC_Programming> I don't use sleep or hibernation stuff myself
[15:32]<EliasC> well i mean the cracks jacky
[15:32]<@BC_Programming> I foudn a firefox addin tho
[15:32]<@BC_Programming> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/auto-shutdown-ng/
[15:32]<@jacky> BC_Programming: you let drives spin all the time then?
[15:32]<EliasC> see firefox would update
[15:32]<EliasC> and then idm woiuldnt work no more
[15:32]<EliasC> so idm would update
[15:32]<EliasC> the crack that is
[15:32]<EliasC> and it was cat n mouse
[15:33]<EliasC> each time idm upddated, so did firefo
[15:33]<EliasC> so it was like man
[15:33]<@BC_Programming> jacky: yes, my SSD doesn't spin at all and my data drive is a NAS drive designed to be on all the time anyway
[15:33]<EliasC> it wokred out, but i had to use older bversions of ffox
[15:33]<EliasC> then finally the crack was failing and i said screw it
[15:33]<EliasC> ive probably gotten at least hundred s of dollars worth of movies
[15:33]<@jacky> BC_Programming: that add on, at first glance, will do a shut down
[15:33]<EliasC> figgered ok i'll pay the price of one movie to get 1000
[15:33]<@jacky> ok on SSD and NAS. <<< lucky you. :)
[15:34]<EliasC> ooo nice
[15:34]<@jacky> EliasC: ever tried freedownload manager though?
[15:34]<EliasC> not sure
[15:34]<EliasC> dont think so...
[15:34]<@jacky> I forget why I stopped using it... maybe it didn't keep up with FF updates... can't remember
[15:34]<EliasC> is it an addon
[15:35]<EliasC> ah yes
[15:35]<@jacky> It had a ton of features
[15:35]<EliasC> thats a common problem
[15:35]<EliasC> ah.
[15:35]<EliasC> well idm is powerful
[15:35]<EliasC> grabs every video
[15:35]<EliasC> and i mean every one
[15:35]<EliasC> well almost every one
[15:35]<EliasC> there's 1 type that eludes it
[15:35]<@BC_Programming> the addon drop-down has shut down, suspend, restart, hibernate, and logout options
[15:35]<EliasC> not sure ewhat it is
[15:35]<@jacky> BC_Programming: IS there a "sleep" command that
[15:35]<EliasC> oh cool
[15:35]<@jacky> BC_Programming: ah.. ok. will investigate further then
[15:35]<@BC_Programming> suspend=sleep
[15:35]<EliasC> which addon is that
[15:35]<@jacky> BC_Programming : tnx
[15:35]<EliasC> whats the addon called
[15:36]<EliasC> ?
[15:36]<EliasC> BC_Programming ?
[15:36]<@jacky> BC_Programming: I assume that by pointing me in this direction, that you feel there is nothing built into Windows to do it already?
[15:36]<@BC_Programming> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/auto-shutdown-ng/
[15:36]<EliasC> ok ty
[15:36]<@jacky> <EliasC> grabs every video <<< from where?
[15:38]<@BC_Programming> Windows doesn't monitor downloads so it would be up to the application. I do wish programs that downloaded would reset the "Sleep" timer so that the computer doesn't go to sleep in the middle of a download. That's part of the reason I don't use power management stuff as it tends to kick in when you don't want it to
[15:39]<@BC_Programming> And you can't get mad since you configured it to do that heh
[15:39]<@jacky> BC_Programming: Windows doesn't monitor downloads << you'd think that MS would realize that this would be something that users would like/want, and incorporate it. It can't be that hard
[15:40]<@BC_Programming> 99% of people would react negatively when they heard that a new windows version/update changed it so Windows monitored your downloads
[15:40]<@jacky> BC_Programming: upon installing that add on... I see the suspend option... now tell me, please - it could be another 6 months before I make another huge d/l... HOW will I remember to go use this thing??
[15:40]<@jacky> Heck... I forgot to even consider that there might even BE an add-on to handle it.... sigh.
[15:41]<@jacky> 99% of people would react negatively <<< sure...if the wording is "monitored"

[15:53]<EliasC> uh from
[15:53]<EliasC> from various sites, any site
[15:55]<@jacky> ok
[15:56]<EliasC> yeh ..
[15:57]<EliasC> there's 1 type it cant do, not sure what it is
[15:57]<EliasC> but generally every video is downloadable
[15:57]<@jacky> cool
[15:58]<EliasC> yep ..
